Alex Church, better known as Sea Wolf kicked off the first of a new series at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum this last week. The series entitled First Fridays blends a lecture, dinner, and music amid the displays of dinosaurs and other exotic animals. Playing to a crowd of over 1,000 people, Sea Wolf was very well received. Read the L.A. Times review of the event here.

Dan Bern “Walks Hard” On Dewey Cox Soundtrack

January 5, 2008

With the success in recent years of the music bio-pic-films like Ray, Walk the Line, and uh…Glitter - you knew a mock send-up of the genre was only a matter of time. And that time has come with the arrival of Columbia Pictures Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which hit theaters on December 21. The film chronicles the ridiculous rise and fall of fictional troubadour Dewey Cox, played by John C. Reilly.
Although the film was written by Reilly along with director Jake Kasdan (Orange County) and producer Judd Apatow (40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up), we were thrilled to find out many of the original (and quite hilarious) songs from the film were co-written by Messenger Records own (and Hank artist) Dan Bern. The Walk Hard soundtrack is in stores now, but to hear the Dylan-esque folk stylings of Dan Bern’s own catalog, check him out on Hank™ .

Silversun Pickups Down With Remixes

It seems like the juggernaut that is the Silversun Pickups refuses to slow down.  Dangerbird Records recently dropped a digital-only EP of six Silversun Pickups remixes, including two versions of “Little Lovers So Polite” and a whopping four (!) remixes of their signature hit “Lazy Eye.” Both originals are taken from their hugely successful debut full-length Carnavas.

There are no slouches on remixing duties either…contributors include Jimmy Tamborello (of Dntel and Postal Service fame), KCRW’s renown DJ Jason Bentley and fellow Dangerbird artist The One AM Radio.  All tracks are killer, check out full streams of the remixes here or head over to Hank™ to give them a listen.
