With the success in recent years of the music bio-pic-films like Ray, Walk the Line, and uh…Glitter - you knew a mock send-up of the genre was only a matter of time. And that time has come with the arrival of Columbia Pictures Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which hit theaters on December 21. The film chronicles the ridiculous rise and fall of fictional troubadour Dewey Cox, played by John C. Reilly.
Although the film was written by Reilly along with director Jake Kasdan (Orange County) and producer Judd Apatow (40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up), we were thrilled to find out many of the original (and quite hilarious) songs from the film were co-written by Messenger Records own (and Hank artist) Dan Bern. The Walk Hard soundtrack is in stores now, but to hear the Dylan-esque folk stylings of Dan Bern’s own catalog, check him out on Hank⢠.
